Horos is not just for radiologists. We have mentioned this before. The functionalities of Horos are fantastic in an educational setting. In fact, that’s what a university in Canada is using Horos for. With the platform being a free, open source viewer - it is perfect for students and educators. The software can be downloaded by anyone, anywhere, at anytime onto their local workstation. With Horos, students and professors can view medical data on their laptop or desktop. Here’s how our friends in Canada use it…

Meet Professor André Cardin

Professor Cardin is the Professor of Radiology at the Department of Chiropractics over at the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières located in Quebec, Canada. The department had previously been using another viewing solution. However, around a couple of months ago that very application stopped functioning upon the MacOS update. Horos is a valuable tool to this educational institute, especially the undergraduate program. The students here participate in clinics. For those using iOS platforms, Horos is the preferred solution.

For the most part these folks use Horos to view MRIs, CTs, and X-rays. Yet, what they really love using the application for is measurements. Horos works wonderfully for scanography purposes where the users have to calculate limb lengths. According to Professor Cardin, with Horos you get the “best value for students who need an iOS application”.

Final Thought

We launched Horos because we thought that there should be a full and free open source application out there for people that cannot afford to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on subscriptions. Universities, professors, and most certainly students fall into that scope. To further our dedication to the Horos community, we have released Horos Academy. It’s training in video module formats. Learn at your own pace, and if you are an educator and need more information about a Horos Academy discount for your classroom, contact us.
